The Gooseberry Badlands Scenic Overlook and Trail is just a few miles west of Worland WY, where we used to live. Located between Worland an Cody, we found while driving to Cody. The overlook and the trail both offer the opportunity to be amazed at the harsh yet beautiful display of strength, through the ages of how the earth itself, was formed! This area is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. There is plenty of free parking and the trail is open the year round. You will find however that it is scorching hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter. The trail is best traveled sans snow.
We walked the trail in late summer. The weather was still quite warm, but the trail was easy enough to navigate. I had thought a walking stick would be coming with me the next time I visited. It is rugged and some parts of it do not lend themselves to a stroller if you have a little one with you. This would also apply to any walking device, if one is needed by other members of your party. With that disclaimer I do hope to instill in you the desire to enjoy this spectacular display of rock formations though time along with the carving that have been added by snow. Both in the falling, and in the runoff.
When you are standing in the parking area and you look down into the badlands it is not easy to see how steep some of the walking path areas actually are. With that said, neither of us had difficulty in walking this scenic trail. The silence of the badlands is profound. The peace will soothe your soul. And it is one experience that I would return to without hesitation. One of the great benefits of being a tourist in your own hometown, is getting to enjoy a return visit!
In no particular order, here are some of our photos from The Gooseberry Badlands Scenic Overlook and Trail.

ReplyDeleteC C L, thanks so much! It was quite the walking adventure to enjoy.
DeleteI didn't know you had a travel blog, I love that. Wyoming is such a beautiful state. It's good to know there are places to visit that aren't as crowded. Gorgeous formations!
ReplyDeleteAmy, this is new, I wanted an environment to share these wonderful places visited so far (and of course more exploring to come!) but Scratch Made Food! & DIY Homemade Household did not seem the right place to do so. This blog has added additional enjoyment to blogging. Thanks so much for stopping by, I appreciate it!
